Activities

This area is an outdoor paradise in all seasons, but the surrounding mountain towns have plenty to do. Here are a few suggestions, or you can blaze your own trail!

  • You may choose to kick your feet up next to the fire at Moose Rock looking at the mountains, sitting in the hot tub or sauna, reading a good book or swaying in a hammock.

  • World Class resorts like Breckenridge, Keystone, Copper Mountain and Arapahoe Basin are a short drive away. All of them are amazing in their own way; it’s hard to make a bad choice with any of these resorts.

  • Access to legendary fly fishing and spin casting is just 15-30 minutes away. Areas like Tomahawk, Antero Reservoir, Tarryall Reservoir, the South Platte River and The Dream Stream are an easy drive. We recommend Alma State Wildlife Area and the cascading stream above Montgomery Reservoir for fly fishing.

  • This area has some of the best hiking in Colorado for beginners or experts. Fourteeners (14,000 foot peaks) like Sherman, Lincoln, Bross, Democrat and Quandary are a close drive away. There are plenty of easy hikes in the area with high altitude views from above tree line. We recommend the hike from Montgomery Reservoir past a large historic mine to Wheeler Lakes, an all day hike up the 14er Mount Sherman or an easy walk on top of Hoosier Pass.

  • You may use your time at Moose Rock as a base camp to explore Colorado mountain towns, high altitude passes, breweries and some of the most stunning views in the whole state. Look out for summer festivals like Burro Days, Park County Fair and Rodeo, concerts in Buena Vista and festivals year round in Breckenridge. The drive from Como to Breckenridge over Boreas Pass is stunning and easy for any vehicle, relaxing next to the river in Buena Vista or on Lake Dillon in the summer is amazing!

  • Buena Vista is a base camp for many rafting companies in the summer. Most guide services offer half day or full day adventures from beginners to intermediate rafters and expert level kayakers. We recommend River Runners and Noah’s Ark.
