There are all kinds of cool towns and beautiful places to explore, but here are a few we recommend.
The historic mining town of Fairplay (10 minutes)
Grab your groceries at Prather’s, morning coffee at Java Moose, local beers at South Park Brewing or a meal at Mr. Burro’s, Salado, Casa Sanchez or Millonzi’s. High Alpine sports has ski rentals, outdoor gear and fishing licenses.
The legendary ski town of Breckenridge (40 minutes)
Head over to Breckenridge for a day of Colorado skiing or Colorado Snowboarding, relaxing in the spa, shopping or dining. The local sledding hill and the ice castles are a huge hit in the winter and the summer is perfect for mountain biking, cruising on the paved trails or visiting the Breckenridge troll. We recommend Daylight Donuts, Giampietro’s giant calzones, Breckenridge Brewing, the crepe truck, Kenosha and Breckenridge Distilling (for samples and an elegant meal).
The river town of Buena Vista (50 minutes)
Drive to Buena Vista for a soak in Mount Princeton Hot Springs, rafting the Arkansas River relaxing next to the river at South Main or wandering the iconic historic downtown. We recommend food and drinks at Surf Hotel and Eddyline Brewing, ice cream at Louie’s, dinner at Rock House and driving Cottonwood Pass. .
